Intimate Trailer

Our trailer begins with an establishing shot of the two main characters, we a a group thought this was an important component to include the two characters in the establishing shot in order to ensure the genre of the film was made obvious as a 'romance'. this shot is a half body shot and the use of close and 'intimate' body language ensures that the audience are aware these characters are 'in love'. the shot was taken from quite a neutral location, this was so that our audience are able to relate to the narrative of the film and the trailer and therefore no where specific is used. 


The next shot in our film trailer was taken in a very similar location and the characters are wearing the same items of clothing as the shot before, this was to ensure a sense of conunity was seen in the narrative so that days the couple were together and were not together can be highlighted by the audience. This shot was taken from behind the characters head giving the perception that their actions are normal and what they would be doing if there wasn't a camera, this ensures realistic elements are made in the film, so once again the narrative is believable and relatable. once again body language has been used to show the characters intimacy.

Our Trailer then went on to several other shots and locations of the leading couple  in a number of different indoor and outdoor locations, in different types of locations. The costume played a different role in the different shoots, during the beginning of our filming it was late December and early January this meant that coats, hats and scarves were all included as obvious costume choices for our characters, to highlight to the audience the time of the year, our later filming sessions, including the middle bed scene were taken in warmer weather conditions where more summery clothes were used and seen. by doing this a time scale between where things were going right aka. the equilibrium and where things began to go wrong aka. the disequilibrium.
Our group tried experimenting with different shots in these 'lovey up' scenes so differences and once again time were shown, in these shots close-up and full body shots have been used as well as a high angle shot in the right-hand night scene. we thought these shots were all really effective because there was a lot of them this made our film look more believably realistic because it became like real film trailers where loads and loads of shots are used. 


This clip in the trailer, plays one of the most 'intimate' poses and see's the height of the couples love for one another, similar to the fist shot in the film the same blank background has been used. a kiss scene in a romantic movie trailer is quite an important component and would be something our target audience of teenage girls would look for and inticipate. the angle pf this shot has been taken from the side of the actors faces this was to ensure that both characters were in the focal point but also to achieve a different shot to the ones we had already experimented with. the only other clip we had used this technique with was the scene where the couple are under the duvet, this was a similar clip to one we saw in the 'Like Crazy' trailer and one that we really wanted to achieve to express the couples intimacy. artificial lighting had been used to light up this shot under the actors faces. i think this shot is a really effective close-up and has worked well at the beginning of the trailer. 


These clips are some of my favourites from the entire trailer, i think there very effective in transitioning the trailer and cutting it in two, allowing the narrative of the trailer to take on a more serious tone. we were inspired to make this transitioning phase by the film 'Like Crazy' in order to make these shots our two characters had to lay in bed in different clothes and positions in order to give the idea of time passing, and the couple staying together in 'Like Crazy' the final shit of this frame is the male character being left alone because the female character has to leave the country whereas in our film the female character gets left alone because the male character goes to prison. these are some of my favourites shots from the trailer because i think they are really effective in changing the mood although if we were to do it again better lighting, equipment to get a more birds-eye-view and a better camera to avoid fuzziness would have to be used.
                                                                 
This shot is the first shot after the transitioning frames and instantly gives light to how things aren't how they use to be and the couple are no longer together, we decided to use a shot from over the female actors shoulder of her typing a text message to 'Chase' reminding him how much she misses him we wanted to do an over shoulder shot instead of a birds-eye view or just a screen shot of the text because once again it was a shot we hadn't used yet and i thought was really effective the lighting in this shot is quite dark except for the mobile phone and i think this also works really well because no background can be seen, even though it is a simple shot i think its effective in setting the mood to the audience and completely changing the tone.

After the transition we wanted to the narrate the female breaking down, these shots were to go over 'Lilly's characters voice over and therefore it was important to have just her in the shots and her reaction to the breakup in the relationship, this shot is a side view shot of 'Lilly' getting in to her car and then being unable to drive because she's to upset and just crying. these shots were taken on the Flip HD camera and offered a much clearer image than the ones we recorded previously. i think this shot is effective in portraying the emotions of the characters and in Romantic movies crying scenes are very often used to portray the idea of not being able to live without the one they lost. 


This shot in the trailer is the climax of the 2 minute production but also if were to make the entire film would be the climax part of it, this is the part where Chase is portrayed as a 'bad boy thug' and in action shows his behaviour before being put in prison, the shot is a long distance full body shot from the back of the actor playing chase the costume choices and props used in this shot have been used to stereotypically identify the character as someone to be scared of. the shot was taken at night time which gives the trailer variety as its the only shots in the trailer that have been taken at an identified different time of day. i think this shot is really effective because it establishes the character in a shocking way, and is unexpected by the audience as to what type of film it may turn out to be. 

This our title screen shot, it is the first one that appears in the trailer and shows an award that our film has won, we chose to use a bokeh background in the trailer as it was commonly used in romance trailers. the colour schemes we chose to use were gold and black we wanted dark war colours to tie in with all the themes of our trailer and thought black writing contrasted it the best. we used the program live type to create the writing and fonts for these titles, and the background was a recorded video so moved with the clip. 

During the clips of the male character Chase clips were also shot of Lillies reaction, shots of lilly crying and not being able to do anything without bursting into tears , i think these side body shots were really effective in cutting through the action of Chase's destruction and therefore the audience are still aware that the story is about two people and not ever about one and therefore both reactions are needed. once again different costume choices have been used in these shots to show time. 

This shot is the final shot in the trailer before the titles and billing block, i think it is one of the most effective shots in the entire production as it is one of the most if not the most shocking to the audience, it is a clop shot of 'chase's hands in which have been covered in blood immediately telling the audience that he is no good, and therefore no good for lilly, he is hiding his face and therefore his identify from the audience whereas earlier in the trailer it was un-hidden. the fact that the shot has been taken during the night time hides even more of his appearance and you cant see what is hiding in the background. this shot appears after the whole begining of the trailer is rewound before chase's actions to make him see what he is loosing and this would be a reaction shot. i think overall it is a very effective final shot in ending the trailer on a complete cliff hanger.

Audience Feedback

The use of the Audience Feedback was a very important technique we needed to use in order to find out whether our hard work on research and planning had been put to its best and offered our target audience exactly what they wanted. We uploaded our film trailer onto YOUTUBE and then on the social networking site Facebook, Facebook was able to offer a large number of the people we would consider to being our 'Target Audience' and because of its popularity and the fact that is free to upload the video, this method was very effective. As a group we did consider using questionnaires again but from previous experience are aware that using questionnaires is quite time consuming, and people are not always willing to take time to fill them in. 
We knew that our target audience were teenage girls and young women between the ages of around 14-25 therefore we were also aware that social networking sites are very popular amongst this age group and therefore knew this technique would be affective this is what we found out:

Editing

When it came to editing our film trailer, there was a lot of discussion on how to do so. We wanted to create something as realistic and genuine as possible and probably didn’t quite realise how difficult that would be.
We started by selecting clips to use at the beginning of the trailer a.k.a. The beginning of the film where the two lead characters fall in love. We wanted to ensure the clips were short and snappy to tie well as a narrative. We realised that real trailers have generally filmed most or whole of the film before releasing the trailer and therefore crating a trailer from scratch and then having to find and collect enough clips is very difficult. We as a group also wanted to be able to show the transition between the equilibrium and the disequilibrium and therefore needed some form of transitional sound and clip. When filming this part we filmed the two main characters lying in bed in different positions and clothing giving the idea of time passing, at the end of the clip in which the female character would be shot alone. when we got back to school and uploaded the clips onto final cut we were able to speed the clips up so the whole section only lasted seconds, we thought this was a really effective technique in changing the mood of the trailer from 'happy and in love' to 'sad and alone'.

After we had done this, the film trailer then took a more serious tone and in order to create this tone we used a voice over, we used the sound of the female character because she is the one in the film to be left alone, romantic films often use a voice over to move the narrative along and the narate the thoughts and feelings of one of the main characters, we created our voice over using an edi role recorder, we then transfered the sound file onto our final cut project and was able to break and split up the phrases to dramatise the trailer, I think the use of a voiceover was a very effective technique, and added extra sound that was needed in our trailer.
Trailers always have some form of titles as an inital component to their trailers, films either include the names of the actors, actresses and directors etc. or some form of narrative about whats going to happen and to give the audience a form of suspense, some trailers even include both; our trailer however, chose to use the naming titles because this is the one most often seen in romantic drama's like ourselves. in order to make the titles of our film we researched many romantic movie trailers and found that many of them used a photograph effect called bokeh this effect is like blurred lighting which appear like dots as there not in focus, this technique is used in many of the romantic trailers we researched and therefore wanted to create our own in order to do this we used an SLR camera with a recording function, and a small depth of field to film gold coloured lighting, after we were happy with our filming we uploaded it onto our film in small sections, then to make the writing itself we used the program 'Live Type' we only wanted the titles for the names of the two leading actors and an award so therefore three different slides, we were unsure on what type of font to use and the colour of it but finally decided on a simple font in a black colour we thought this was the most effective and contrasting against the gold bokeh, after we had added the text the last thing we needed to do was edit in the final slides of the title of the film, to do this we made a black background and pasted our logo for our film onto the slide we then tranistioned in the words 'released 2012' the word released suggests at our narrative of something being related to prison, which ties with the logo and handcuff idea. We then did the same for our billing block and social network slide.


Towards the end of the trailer clips go back and fourth from the male character Chase being seen as a 'thug' with a baseball bat and the female character 'Lilly' crying the clips have been timed with the music, we decided to use the same track throughout the trailer of Ed Sheeran- Give Me Love because this track expresses the two diiferent sides we needed in the trailer of calm and gentle music and then loud and dramtic we were able to cut and start the music over the voiceover from the calm music to the end of the track where the music is much more dramatic; the lyrics "M-my my, m-my my, m-my my, give me love, lover," are repeated throughout the thug scene and we though this was really effective.
another editing technique used was the rewind setting on final cut, we wanted to quickly speed up and rewind the happy begining part of the trailer, this was done for a number of creative reasons, it was done in the trailer at a part where Chase needs to be remineded on what he is missing out on and therefore by doing this it acts asd a reminder of exactly that, the whole transition only lasts secounds but also remidns the audience on the type of film they are watching and how things can go so wrong, the scene juxta poses with the beginging making it very effective.

VoiceOvers

A Voice-Over is the sound of a voice from an unseen character who is not seen speaking in the trailer but on top of the broadcast, many romantic movies use voiceovers in their trailers to act as a narrative for the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. it is a way to express what might happen in the film without giving a way too much, films often just use quotes found in the movie without the matching filmed parts. in our trailer we wanted to use a voiceover to narrate the female characters pain when things go wrong, and therefore a voiceover was the most effective technique in doing so.
Voiceovers are sometimes repeated from the traler onto the film and this is a way to add conuity in the rom-com Love and Other Drugs a voice over is used in the trailer as well as the final words in the film:
 “Sometimes the things you want the most don’t happen and what you least expect happens. I don’t know – you meet thousands of people and none of them really touch you. And then you meet that one person and your life is changed. “

Life's all about moments, of impact and how they changes our lives forever. But what if one day you could no longer remember any of them?


This voiceover is the one we chose to write for our voiceover for the 'Intimate' film trailer, we wanted to use love quotes like the other examples above and researched these quotes in detail. we think the words and phrases in the voiceover work well with the narrative and with what happens in the film, and if were to make the whole feature length film then including this passage would be important to us. 

This love is unconditional affection with no limits or conditions. Like screaming out loud with no one else to listen, no one will ever understand just how much it hurts. I thought I knew what  IT was.  But I wasn’t prepared not really. Sometimes I even wish I could have all the bad stuff back just so I could have the good again.

Everything seems brighter, happier and more intense when your in love. When you find it don’t let go.

Social Networking Sites

With the use of Social Networking sites being everywhere nowadays we wanted to ensure our trailer used sites like Facebook to promote are film. in order to do this, we thought that at the end of the trailer just after the billing block a screen shot of details on how to follow the 'Intimate' film franchise will appear, with the Facebook logo and a website name, similar to some other examples we saw whilst researching romantic film trailers on youtube. 




This was an example we found from the Vow trailer so recreated it in our movie piece. 



DVD


We wanted to be able to make a film cover for the film and therefore used the same image as what we used in the film poster because most films do use similar images as the trailer, in order to make our blue-ray cover we added and removed a number of components from our trailer, we started by removing the billing block and moving the title of the film from the bottom of the publication to the top, we also moved the character titles further up, we then needed to add to certificates to either bottom corners of the case this made the over look instantly genuine, we then added the blue ray logo to the bottom of the case and the logo for ‘focus features’ as this will be our main institution, in order to make the cover look even more genuine we then added review quotes and ‘star ratings to the dvd on either side of the main image this made the cover look further genuine, and we were really pleased with the way it turned out.

Choice Of Title

We decided to call our film Intimate, the word intimate expresses and intimate relationshop that inbolves physical and emotional intimacy. physical intimacy is characterized by romantic or passionate love and attachment or sexucal activitiy. the term is also used as a euphemism for a sexual relationship. intimate relationships play a central role in the overal human experience- this side of the word intimate draws on the beginging and the equilibrium of the film where the couple are completley in love, however we wanted to make the word a pun and hint at the narative of the film, to do this we seperated the word so that the audience could read it as both 'Intimate' and 'In-mate' which suggests that the film would have something to do with prison, i was really pleased with this idea as it was a clever technique and something that real films look for when creating a title. our logo in general i thought was realy realistic and as a group we were very pleased with the way it ad turned out.
